A staff team brimming with confidence was brought down to earth with a bump, thanks to an inspired bowling performance from the (not so) sprightly Mitres CC on Wednesday evening on the Bishop's Field.

The staff, along with Year 13 students, Elis S and Jack W, took to the field and some sharp bowling from Mr Walsh restricted the run rate. This was helped later in the innings via some wayward bowling from staff members who shall remain nameless!

With the Mitres setting the Staff team 123 to win, spirits were high considering some of the batting depth the staff possessed. What was not in the script was to be two wickets down in the first over thanks to Wales over 60's bowler Nick Hatton. Jack W duly reached his 30 to retire, including two steepling 6's that nearly cleared the Pavilion. The run rate dropped, and the staff were up against it.

Former Glamorgan player, Mr Murphy came in at ten and only 23 from the final 18 deliveries the result should have been a foregone formality. Mr Murphy falling to a first ball dismissal sent the Mitres into raptures, leaving the final two brave souls an uphill challenge that was just too much as the staff finished five runs short of the target.
