Old Llandavians Day 2023
Saturday 8th July 2023

Despite a foreboding weather report, the atmosphere was anything but gloomy at this year’s Old Llandavians Day!  OLs from 1948 to 2022 enjoyed a delicious lunch, and were treated to both a fiercly fought 1st VII v OL Netball and highly contested 1st XI v OL Cricket matches, featuring Llandavians both past and present.

The Netball match was close from the start, and it was great to see some ‘friendly’ sibling rivalry in a Cronk v Cronk battle for the centre position. The OL team included plenty of siblings, seeing all three Hill’s taking the court, Fin making a huge impression in the shooting circle with past student/sports coach Jade Bolderson. It was also great to see Mrs Sherwood playing alongside son, Ollie, and against daughter, Katy, as a current pupil. The playing standard was high and the Old Llandavians were certainly not giving the current girls any grace! A close finish with the OL winning by four goals, although it really could have gone either way!

A young CSL side took on a slightly older OL side during the Cricket fixture. Batting first, the OL side played some outrageous shots and showed some physical strength to score 179. Benedict Das (2017-2019), Priyansh Jha (2013-2020), Charlie Price (2017-2019) and Pratik Saha (2014-2018) top scoring for the OL’s. In reply Jack W and Rhydian S both scored half centuries with Sam C registering an invaluable 26 not out. This was a young CSL side who showed that the future is very bright, whilst also being reminded of the good spirit and friendship that exists in the OL group of players.

Thank you to all players, and we look forward to welcoming back this year’s leavers as OL’s next year!

Louise Mumford, the Archivist, had set up a fantastic display of material from the Archive, chosen to include photographs and memorabilia from the age groups present.

At lunch and on the pitch, there was a constant chatter of trips down memory lane, long over due catch ups and new memories being made.

Thank you to everyone who made it such a wonderful day!
